Adhyāya 152 — Bhīṣma’s Authorization for Yudhiṣṭhira’s Return to the Capital (नगरप्रवेशानुज्ञा)

शेषान्नमुपभुञ्जाना यथान्यायं यथाविधि । तुष्टपुष्टजना नित्यं नारी धर्मेण युज्यते,जो प्रतिदिन प्रातःकाल उठनेमें रुचि रखती है, घरोंके काम-काजमें योग देती है, घरको झाड़-बुहारकर साफ रखती है और गोबरसे लीप-पोतकर पवित्र बनाये रखती है, जो पतिके साथ रहकर प्रतिदिन अग्निहोत्र करती है, देवताओंको पुष्प और बलि अर्पण करती है तथा देवता, अतिथि और पोष्यवर्गको भोजनसे तृप्त करके न्याय और विधिके अनुसार शेष अन्नका स्वयं भोजन करती है तथा घरके लोगोंको हृष्ट-पुष्ट एवं संतुष्ट रखती है, ऐसी ही नारी सती-धर्मके फलसे युक्त होती है

śeṣānnam upabhuñjānā yathānyāyaṃ yathāvidhi | tuṣṭapuṣṭajanā nityaṃ nārī dharmeṇa yujyate ||

Maheshvara said: A woman who, in accordance with justice and prescribed rule, eats only the remaining food after others have been duly satisfied, and who keeps the members of the household continually content and well-nourished—such a woman is united with dharma.
