Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Anuśāsana Parva—specifically in the section on the Dharma of giving—during the dialogue between Umā and Maheśvara, the chapter narrating the duties and conduct of women comes to an end: this is the one hundred and forty-sixth chapter. (This verse serves as a colophon marking the close of the chapter rather than advancing the story.)
भीष्म उवाच
This line is a colophon: it does not add a new teaching but signals that the instructional discussion—framed as the Umā–Maheśvara dialogue and focused on strīdharma within the broader dāna-dharma context—has concluded for this chapter.
Bhīṣma’s discourse (as transmitted in the Anuśāsana Parva) reaches a formal chapter-end marker, identifying the textual location: Anuśāsana Parva → Dāna-dharma section → Umā–Maheśvara dialogue → exposition on strīdharma; the 146th chapter is declared complete.
