Narada said: Having spoken thus, Mahadeva—though himself the sovereign Lord—became eager to listen. Therefore he addressed his beloved, agreeable wife Parvati, who was seated close by, inviting her to speak.
नारद उवाच
The verse sets the ethical tone for instruction on strī-dharma by portraying an ideal of respectful dialogue: even the supreme Lord chooses to listen, and he addresses his wife with affection and approval, implying that dharma is best taught and received through attentive, harmonious communication.
Narada narrates that after speaking, Shiva wishes to hear Parvati’s words; he turns to her, seated nearby, and addresses her—introducing Parvati’s forthcoming exposition on women’s duties and conduct.
