Discerning Dharma in Accord with Time

Śrī Maheśvara declares that those men who remain devoted to their own wife, approach her only during the proper season, and do not cling to coarse, village-born sensual indulgences, attain heaven. The teaching frames sexual restraint and fidelity as a form of dharma that purifies conduct and leads to auspicious posthumous destiny.
The verse teaches that fidelity to one’s own spouse and disciplined sexual conduct—approaching only at the proper time and avoiding coarse sensual indulgence—constitute righteous behavior that leads to heavenly merit.
In Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction-focused setting, Śrī Maheśvara is presented as speaking a moral rule: he identifies a specific pattern of restrained household life and states its फल (result)—attainment of Svarga.
