Umā—Śarvāṇī, the treasure-house of austerity—spoke with a mind fixed in concentration: “O sinless one, the Blessed Lord has granted you a son named Sāmba.”
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच
The verse highlights the linkage of disciplined austerity (tapas) and divine favor: concentrated devotion and righteous spiritual effort culminate in auspicious boons, presented here as the granting of a son.
After Śaṅkara agrees (“So be it”), Umā speaks with focused intent and announces that the Lord has granted a son named Sāmba to the addressed person, marking the fulfillment of a divine boon.
