Mahādeva said: “With the proper disciplines that carry one toward yoga, one should remain intent on practice with a concentrated mind. In the heat of summer, the exemplary forest-dweller should undertake the austerity of the five fires. One should also persist, according to rule, in the observance of the ‘Frog-posture’ (maṇḍūka-yoga) taught in haṭha-yoga traditions, and partake of whatever is used or enjoyed only in a manner consistent with justice and propriety.”
श्रीमहेश्वर उवाच
Maintain one-pointedness and pursue yoga through regulated disciplines; undertake appropriate austerities (like pañcatapas for a forest-dweller) and consume or use things only in a manner consistent with nyāya—propriety, justice, and right measure.
Śiva (Mahādeva) is instructing on ascetic-yogic conduct: he outlines concrete practices—summer pañcatapas, regulated maṇḍūka-yoga—and frames them within an ethical rule of right and measured enjoyment (yathā-nyāyam).
