ब्राह्मणपूजायां व्युष्टिः — Vyuṣṭi (Merit-Outcome) of Honoring Brāhmaṇas: Kṛṣṇa and Durvāsā
vaiśampāyana uvāca | tasya tad vacanaṃ śrutvā snehād āgata-sambhramaḥ | bhīṣmo bhāgīrathī-putra idaṃ vacanam abravīt ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Hearing those words of his, Bhīṣma—the son of the Bhāgīrathī (Gaṅgā)—moved by affectionate concern and stirred with emotion, spoke these words in reply.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames ethical instruction as arising from affectionate responsibility: an elder (Bhīṣma) responds to a king’s query with care and seriousness, signaling that dharma is best transmitted through compassionate, attentive counsel.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration to King Janamejaya, Yudhiṣṭhira has spoken; upon hearing him, Bhīṣma—emotionally stirred by affection—begins his reply, introducing the next segment of Bhīṣma’s teachings.
