त्रीण्येव तु पदान्याहु: पुरुषस्योत्तमं व्रतम् । न द्रह्मेच्चैव दद्याच्च सत्यं चैव परं वदेत्,वेद मनुष्यके लिये तीन बातोंको उत्तम व्रत बताते हैं--(१) किसीके प्रति द्रोह न करे, (२) दान दे तथा (३) दूसरोंसे सदा सत्य बोले
trīṇy eva tu padāny āhuḥ puruṣasyottamaṃ vratam | na drohamec caiva dadyāc ca satyaṃ caiva paraṃ vadet ||
Vyāsa said: “They declare that for a person there are only three steps that constitute the highest vow: do not commit treachery or harm toward anyone, give in charity, and always speak the supreme truth.”
