एवं लोकेष्वहिंसा तु निर्दिष्टा धर्मत: पुरा । जैसे हाथीके पैरके चिह्ममें सभी पदगामी प्राणियोंके पदचिह्न समा जाते हैं, उसी प्रकार पूर्वकालमें इस जगत्के भीतर धर्मतः अहिंसाका निर्देश किया गया है अर्थात् अहिंसाधर्ममें सभी धर्मोंका समावेश हो जाता है। ऐसा माना गया है
Translation
“Thus, in the worlds, ahiṃsā was taught long ago as dharma. Just as within the footprint of an elephant all the footprints of creatures that walk can be contained, so too does the dharma of non-violence include all dharmas within itself—so it is held to be.”
