Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity

Bhīṣma said: “For him there is prepared a celestial chariot, radiant like twelve suns. Its splendor is enhanced by priceless jewels, pearls, and coral. Encircled by rows of swans and pervaded by the ‘serpent-path’—a winding, luminous course—that chariot resounds with calls, adorned with peacocks and cakravāka birds, and is established in Brahmā’s world. Within it are lofty mansions. O King, that eternal dwelling is filled with many men and women. This was declared by the great and dharma-knowing sage Aṅgiras.”

Educational Q&A

Righteous conduct (dharma) is portrayed as yielding not merely social order on earth but also exalted posthumous attainments—symbolized here by a radiant vimāna and residence in Brahmaloka—affirming a moral universe where merit bears fruit.

Bhishma, instructing the king, describes a magnificent celestial vimāna prepared for a meritorious person, detailing its brilliance, ornaments, auspicious birds, and its establishment in Brahmaloka, and notes that this account was taught by the sage Aṅgiras.
