Angiras Teaching

Aṅgirā says: In the same way, one who passes the month of Āśvayuja observing the discipline of taking food only once a day becomes purified in conduct, gains prosperity in the form of various conveyances and comforts, and is blessed with many sons.
The verse teaches that disciplined restraint—specifically the vow of eating only once daily during the month of Āśvayuja—purifies a person and is said to generate merit that manifests as prosperity (comforts like conveyances) and familial flourishing (many sons).
In Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction on vows and their fruits, the sage Aṅgirā continues listing month-based observances; here he states the result of observing ekabhakta (single daily meal) throughout Āśvayuja.
