लक्षणैरन्विता या च प्रशस्ता या च लक्षणै: । मनोज्ञां दर्शनीयां च तां भवान् वोढुमहति,जो उत्तम लक्षणोंसे सम्पन्न, श्रेष्ठ आचरणोंद्वारा प्रशंसित, मनोहारिणी तथा दर्शनीय हो, उसीके साथ तुम्हें विवाह करना चाहिये
lakṣaṇair anvitā yā ca praśastā yā ca lakṣaṇaiḥ | manojñāṃ darśanīyāṃ ca tāṃ bhavān voḍhum arhati ||
Bhishma said: “You should marry that woman who is endowed with auspicious marks, whose conduct is praised as excellent, and who is pleasing to the mind and worthy to behold.”
भीष्म उवाच
Marriage should be guided by dharma: one should choose a spouse who has auspicious qualities and is praised for good conduct, not merely by impulse, but by ethical and socially approved standards.
In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma is instructing the listener on righteous conduct; here he gives a normative guideline for selecting a bride—emphasizing auspicious traits, commendable character, and pleasing presence.
