पुत्रा: प्रदेया ज्ञानेषु कुलधर्मेषु भारत । भारत! उसके गर्भसे संतान उत्पन्न करके वंश-परम्पराको प्रतिष्ठित करे और ज्ञान तथा कुलधर्मकी शिक्षा पानेके लिये पुत्रोंको गुरुके आश्रममें भेज दे ।। कन्या चोत्पाद्य दातव्या कुलपुत्राय धीमते

putrāḥ pradeyā jñāneṣu kuladharmeṣu bhārata | kanyā cotpādya dātavyā kulaputrāya dhīmate ||

Bhishma said: “O Bharata, sons should be entrusted to a teacher for instruction in sacred knowledge and the duties of the family line. And when a daughter is born, she should be given in marriage to a worthy and wise young man of a good family.”
