Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity

प्रत्यादित्य॑ प्रत्यनलं प्रति गां च प्रति द्विजान्‌ ये मेहन्ति च पन्थानं ते भवन्ति गतायुष:,जो सूर्य, अग्नि, गौ तथा ब्राह्मणोंकी ओर मुँह करके पेशाब करते हैं और जो बीच रास्तेमें मूतते हैं, वे सब गतायु हो जाते हैं

Transliteration

pratyādityaṁ pratyanalaṁ prati gāṁ ca prati dvijān ye mehanti ca panthānaṁ te bhavanti gatāyuṣaḥ

Translation

Bhīṣma said: Those who urinate facing the Sun, facing fire, toward a cow, or toward Brāhmaṇas—and those who urinate in the middle of the roadway—are said to become “short-lived,” for such acts violate basic standards of purity, reverence, and public propriety taught in dharma.
