Bhīṣma said: One should not frequent crossroads, especially at the two twilight junctions (dawn and dusk). Nor should one wear footwear or clothing that has been worn by others. These are disciplines of purity and restraint, meant to safeguard conduct and support brahmacarya (self-controlled living).
भीष्म उवाच
Bhishma teaches practical disciplines of purity and restraint: avoid morally and ritually vulnerable places/times (like crossroads at twilight) and avoid using items worn by others, as part of maintaining śauca (cleanliness) and brahmacarya (self-control).
In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma is instructing Yudhishthira on dharma. This verse is part of a set of behavioral injunctions (ācāra) describing what a disciplined person should avoid in daily life.
