Bhīṣma said: “One should never take one’s seat or remain in a place soiled with feces or urine. Nor should one do so at an improper time—neither too early in the morning, nor too late in the evening, nor at midday.”
भीष्म उवाच
Maintain śauca (purity) and disciplined conduct: avoid defiling places and observe proper times and decorum in one’s bodily routines, since external cleanliness and regulated habits support inner steadiness and dharmic life.
In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma continues instructing Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and proper conduct (ācāra). This verse is part of practical guidance on cleanliness and appropriate timing in daily behavior.
