भोजन करनेके पश्चात् कुल्ला करके मुँह धो ले और एक हाथसे दाहिने पैरके अँगूठेपर पानी डाले ।। पार्णिं मूर्ध्नि समाधाय स्पृष्टवा चाग्निं समाहित: । ज्ञातिश्रैष्ठयमवाप्रोति प्रयोगकुशलो नर:,फिर प्रयोगकुशल मनुष्य एकाग्रचित्त हो अपने हाथको सिरपर रखे। उसके बाद अग्निका मनसे स्पर्श करे। ऐसा करनेसे वह कुटुम्बीजनोंमें श्रेष्ठता प्राप्त कर लेता है
bhojanaṃ kṛtvā kullaṃ kṛtvā mukhaṃ prakṣālya ekena hastena dakṣiṇapādāṅguṣṭhe jalaṃ nikṣipet | pārṇiṃ mūrdhni samādhāya spṛṣṭvā cāgniṃ samāhitaḥ | jñātiśraiṣṭhyam avāpnoti prayogakuśalo naraḥ ||
Bhishma said: After taking food, one should rinse the mouth and wash the face, then with one hand pour water upon the right great toe. Next, placing the palm upon the head and, with a collected mind, mentally touching (that is, reverently acknowledging) the sacred fire, Agni, a man skilled in proper observance attains pre-eminence among his kinsmen. The teaching emphasizes disciplined post-meal purity and mindful reverence as marks of dharma in household life.
भीष्म उवाच
That everyday dharma is upheld through disciplined cleanliness after eating and mindful reverence to the sacred fire; correct observance (prayoga) cultivates social and moral excellence, bringing esteem among one’s relatives.
Bhishma, instructing on rules of conduct, describes a sequence of post-meal actions—rinsing, washing, pouring water on the right great toe, placing the palm on the head, and mentally honoring Agni—stating that such proper practice leads to distinction among one’s kin.
