Vāyudeva said: “By that practice, O Madhusūdana, the hosts of seers are pleased. Each day, before taking food, one should duly tend the sacred fire (agnihotra) and perform the offering rites (bali/vaiśvadeva). Thus the gods are satisfied. And for the contentment of the ancestors (pitṛs), one should daily gladden them through offerings such as food, water, milk, or fruits and roots.”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse teaches the discipline of daily dharma: study and sacred recitation please the ṛṣis; tending the sacred fire and performing bali/vaishvadeva before eating sustains one’s duty toward the gods; and regular offerings (food, water, milk, fruits/roots) maintain gratitude and obligation toward the ancestors (Pitṛs).
Vāyudeva addresses Kṛṣṇa (Madhusūdana) and outlines practical household observances—agni-service, bali offerings, and ancestor-satisfying rites—framing them as daily acts that uphold cosmic and social order by honoring seers, gods, and forebears.
