Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how worldly renown (prathā) attaches to individuals within a royal lineage; it functions as a reminder that names and reputations are recorded and remembered, setting the stage for later ethical evaluation of the Kuru family’s conduct.

Vaiśampāyana is enumerating specific sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, identifying three—Haviḥśravā, Indrā, and Bhumanyu (along with Aparājita as named)—as being well-known on earth, as part of a broader genealogical/catalogue passage in the Ādi Parva.
