Vaiśampāyana said: “Ucchaiḥśravā, Bhaḍkāra, and Jitāri—remembered as the eighth—were among them. In the lineage descended from these sons, there arose men renowned for virtues born of their deeds; among them were Janamejaya and seven others, and likewise other great chariot-warriors.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes that true renown in a royal lineage is grounded in karma—deeds that generate enduring qualities (karma-jaiḥ guṇaiḥ). Nobility is presented not merely as inherited status but as validated by conduct and merit.
Vaiśampāyana continues a genealogical account, listing descendants (including Ucchaiḥśravā, Bhaḍkāra, and Jitāri) and noting that in their line arose celebrated warriors such as Janamejaya and others, famed for deed-born virtues.
