Vaiśampāyana said: Once again the mighty ruler brought all kings under tribute, making the whole earth obedient to his sovereignty. Having thus regained dominion over the land, that powerful king again performed great sacrificial rites (yajñas), rich in gifts, worshipping the Lord through many grand offerings. In due course, Tapatī, the daughter of the Sun, bore to Saṃvaraṇa a son named Kuru, born of his heroic potency.

Educational Q&A

The passage links legitimate sovereignty with dharmic conduct: a king establishes order by bringing rival rulers under a structured obligation (tribute) and then sustains prosperity and moral legitimacy through yajña performed with generosity (dakṣiṇā) and devotion.

Saṃvaraṇa reasserts imperial control by making other kings tribute-bearers, regains the earth/kingdom, performs many grand sacrifices, and later Tapatī (daughter of Sūrya) gives birth to Kuru, the eponymous ancestor of the Kuru lineage.
