Vaiśampāyana said: From Duṣyanta was born Bharata, the wise king, the son of Śakuntalā. From him the great fame of the Bharata lineage spread far and wide.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the dharmic importance of rightful lineage and virtuous kingship: a ruler’s wisdom and conduct generate lasting yaśas (honorable fame) that sustains and dignifies an entire dynasty.
Vaiśampāyana narrates the genealogical continuation of the royal line: Duṣyanta fathers Bharata (Śakuntalā’s son), and Bharata becomes the source from whom the renowned Bharata dynasty’s fame spreads.
