अहं हि पूर्वो वयसा भवदभ्य- स्तेनाभिवादं भवतां न प्रयुञ्जे । यो विद्यया तपसा जन्मना वा वृद्ध: स पूज्यो भवति द्विजानाम्‌,मैं आपलोगोंसे अवस्थामें बड़ा हूँ, अतः आपलोगोंको प्रणाम नहीं कर रहा हूँ। द्विजातियोंमें जो विद्या, तप और अवस्थामें बड़ा होता है, वह पूजनीय माना जाता है

Translation

I am older than you in years; therefore I do not offer you salutations. Among the twice-born, he who is greater in learning, in austerity, and in age is held to be worthy of honor.
