“O fair-smiling one, I do not pursue desire in a manner contrary to justice and right conduct. Therefore I tell you the truth: the child I have is the offspring of that sage.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Desire (kāma) must be governed by nyāya/dharma; one should not act unjustly, and one should speak the truth about morally sensitive matters such as lineage.
A woman, addressed as “śucismitā,” defends her conduct: she insists she has not acted against right conduct and truthfully states that her child was begotten by a sage (ṛṣi), implying a dharmically sanctioned origin rather than illicit behavior.
