A seeker of śreyas (true welfare) should avoid the company of people who habitually disparage virtue and noble qualities in others; such fault-finding indicates a corrupt intention and harms one’s own moral clarity.
Śukra delivers a moral instruction: he characterizes certain people by their tendency to criticize others’ good conduct and lineage, and advises the wise not to live among such persons.
