Chapter 74: Non-anger, Forbearance, and the Ethics of Residence
mahendrasya kuberasya yamasya varuṇasya ca | bhavanāny anusañyāmi prabhāvaṁ paśya me nṛpa naraśvara ||
Duṣyanta said: “Behold my power, O king, lord among men. I can move freely and continually to and from the celestial abodes of Indra, Kubera, Yama, and Varuṇa.”
The verse foregrounds the idea that true sovereignty is measured not only by earthly power but by recognized stature and access within the wider cosmic order—implying responsibility and legitimacy that transcend mere force.
Duṣyanta is asserting his extraordinary capability and prestige by claiming free movement among the divine abodes of major deities, urging the listener (addressed as king/lord of men) to acknowledge his prabhāva (majesty/power).
