Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
सर्वलक्षणसम्पूर्णा वैदूर्यमणिसंनिभा । पज्चानां पुरुषेन्द्राणां चित्तप्रमथनी रह:,वह समस्त शुभ लक्षणोंसे सम्पन्न तथा वैदूर्य मणिके समान कान्तिमती थी। एकान्तमें रहकर वह पाँचों पुरुषप्रवर पाण्डवोंके मनको मुग्ध किये रहती थी
sarvalakṣaṇasampūrṇā vaidūryamaṇisaṃnibhā | pañcānāṃ puruṣendrāṇāṃ cittapramathanī rahaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: She was endowed with every auspicious mark, radiant like the cat’s-eye gem (vaidūrya). In seclusion, she continually captivated and stirred the hearts of the five foremost men—the Pāṇḍava princes.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how outward excellence and private proximity can powerfully sway the mind, suggesting an ethical caution: attachment and fascination arise easily and can influence judgment, especially among even the greatest persons.
Vaiśampāyana describes a woman of extraordinary auspicious beauty, likened to the shining vaidūrya gem, who—while living privately—captivates the hearts of the five Pāṇḍava princes.
