Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
एवमन्ये मनुष्येन्द्रा बहवों5शा दिवौकसाम् | जज्ञिरे वसुदेवस्य कुले कुलविवर्धना:,इस प्रकार वसुदेवजीके कुलमें बहुत-से दूसरे-दूसरे नरेन्द्र उत्पन्न हुए, जो देवताओंके अंश थे। वे सभी अपने कुलकी वृद्धि करनेवाले थे
evam anye manuṣyendrā bahavo 'ṁśā divaukasām | jajñire vasudevasya kule kulavivardhanāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “In this same way, many other kings were born in the lineage of Vasudeva—each a partial manifestation of the gods—men who became enhancers of their family line.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames exemplary rulers as divinely empowered (aṁśas of the gods) and emphasizes the ethical ideal of sustaining and strengthening one’s lineage and social order through worthy conduct and leadership.
Vaiśampāyana continues a genealogical account, stating that many kings were born in Vasudeva’s family, described as possessing divine portions and as contributors to the growth and prestige of their clan.
