Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
अपराजित: पण्डितको विशालाक्षो दुराधन:
aparājitaḥ paṇḍitakaḥ viśālākṣo durādhanaḥ
Vaiśampāyana said: “(He was) unconquered, learned, large-eyed, and difficult to subdue.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights that strength (being ‘unconquered’) and intellect (being ‘learned’) are admirable, but their ethical value depends on how they are used; formidable capability must be guided by dharma to become truly beneficial.
Vaiśampāyana is briefly describing a person’s qualities in a laudatory list—invincible, wise, striking in appearance, and hard to subdue—serving as a narrative characterization within the ongoing account.
