Educational Q&A

The verse reinforces the Mahābhārata’s emphasis on lineage and ordered origins: beings and clans are traced through named progenitors, suggesting that identity and duty (dharma) are often framed within inherited relationships and responsibilities.

Vaiśampāyana continues a genealogical account, stating that Surabhī gave birth to two daughters—Rohiṇī and the illustrious Gandharvī—thereby extending the chain of descent that explains later beings and groups in the epic’s world.
