Vaiśampāyana said: Tvaṣṭī, the wife of Savitṛ, assuming the form of a mare, gave birth in the mid-region (the sky) to the two Aśvins. The passage highlights a divine birth narrative in which a goddess adopts a specific form to bring forth beneficent deities, underscoring the cosmic order in which even extraordinary transformations serve the welfare of the worlds.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse conveys that divine transformations and unusual births are not random marvels but function within ṛta (cosmic order): forms are assumed for a purpose, and the resulting beings (here, the Aśvins) serve the world through beneficent roles.
Vaiśampāyana narrates a genealogical episode: Tvaṣṭī, consort of Savitṛ, takes on a mare’s form and in the atmospheric mid-region gives birth to the twin deities known as the Aśvins.
