King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
आश्चर्यभूतं तद् गत्वा राज्ञेडथ प्रत्यवेदयन् काये मत्स्या इमौ राजन् सम्भूतौ मानुषाविति,यह आश्चर्यजनक घटना देखकर मछेरोंने राजाके पास जाकर निवेदन किया --“महाराज! मछलीके पेटसे ये दो मनुष्य बालक उत्पन्न हुए हैं!
Vaiśampāyana uvāca— āścaryabhūtaṃ tad gatvā rājñe ’tha pratyavedayan: “kāye matsyā imau rājan sambhūtau mānuṣāv” iti.
Vaiśampāyana said: Having witnessed that astonishing occurrence, the fishermen went to the king and reported, “O King, from the body (belly) of a fish these two human children have come into being.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how extraordinary events are brought under the scrutiny of lawful authority: the fishermen do not exploit the marvel privately but report it to the king, reflecting social order and accountability in the face of the uncanny.
After seeing a wondrous occurrence—two human boys found to have arisen from a fish’s body—the fishermen go to the king and formally inform him of what has happened.
