Educational Q&A

The verse underscores dharmic conduct in honoring the worthy: reverence (pūjā) offered by a righteous patron should be received with grace, and gifts—especially the cow, emblematic of sacred generosity—should be handled with respectful consent and propriety, fostering mutual goodwill.

Śaunaka reports that Janamejaya, described as a descendant of the Pāṇḍavas, offers honor to the sage Vyāsa. Vyāsa accepts the reverence and also gives his assent regarding the cow connected with the honoring, and he becomes pleased.
