Educational Q&A

Remembrance of revered names functions as a protective discipline: steady recollection (smaraṇa) dispels fear and is presented as a dharmic means of safety, especially against serpents.

Āstīka, in the broader setting of the serpent-related crisis (the Janamejaya sarpasatra episode), proclaims a protective formula: whoever remembers Asita, Ārtimant, and Sunītha at any time will not suffer fear of snakes.
