Sauti said: O best of twice-born ones, when the Nāgas heard Elāpatra’s words, their hearts were filled with joy. All of them together exclaimed, “Well said! Well said!” Vāsuki too was greatly delighted by this, and from that very day he began to care for and nurture his sister Jaratkāru with special affection—intent on fulfilling the divine injunction through a righteous marriage arrangement.
एलापत्र उवाच
The passage highlights dharma as responsive action: when a righteous plan aligned with a higher injunction is heard, the community supports it, and Vāsuki embodies duty by protecting and preparing his sister for a marriage meant to secure the welfare of the Nāga lineage.
After Elāpatra speaks, the Nāgas unanimously approve, saying “sādhu, sādhu.” Vāsuki is especially pleased and begins, from that day onward, to nurture his sister Jaratkāru carefully, preparing to arrange her marriage with the sage Jaratkāru as directed.
