Wrongdoing—especially by those in positions of influence like a parent—can bring collective peril upon a family or community; dharmic responsibility includes foreseeing consequences and arranging a proper remedy (parihāra) rather than leaving others to suffer.
Śeṣa addresses a serpent (bhujaṅgama), explaining that the mother’s offense has created a serious threat for the serpent’s brothers, but reassuring him that a preventive remedy has already been put in place.
