तदुत्सृष्टमभिप्रेक्ष्य तस्य पर्णमनुत्तमम् । हृष्टानि सर्वभूतानि नाम चक्रुर्गरुत्मत:,उस गिरे हुए परम उत्तम पंखको देखकर सब प्राणियोंको बड़ा हर्ष हुआ और उसीके आधारपर उन्होंने गरुडका नामकरण किया
tad utsṛṣṭam abhiprekṣya tasya parṇam anuttamam | hṛṣṭāni sarvabhūtāni nāma cakrur garutmataḥ ||
Seeing that supremely excellent feather of his that had been cast off, all beings were filled with joy; and taking that very feat as the basis, they bestowed upon him the name “Garuḍmān” (the winged one).
शौनक उवाच
The verse highlights how extraordinary qualities and deeds become the basis for reputation and naming: a being’s identity in the world is often recognized and affirmed through visible excellence that benefits or inspires others.
A magnificent feather shed by Garuḍa is seen by all creatures; they rejoice at the marvel and, using this sign of his winged greatness, they give him the name Garutmān (Garuḍa).
