rajāṁsi mukuṭāny eṣām utthitāni vyadharṣayan | tatas trāsasamuddhignaḥ saha devaiḥ śatakratuḥ | utpātān dāruṇān paśyann ity uvāca bṛhaspatim ||

Dust rose in thick clouds and, striking them, dulled the crowns of the gods. Then Śatakratu (Indra), shaken and agitated with fear along with the other deities, seeing dreadful portents, spoke thus to Bṛhaspati.

Educational Q&A

When ominous signs arise and fear spreads, the proper response is to seek guidance from wisdom and dharmic counsel (here, Bṛhaspati) rather than act impulsively; even powerful leaders must steady themselves and consult the learned.

A violent disturbance raises dust that soils the gods’ crowns; seeing dreadful portents, Indra (with the other gods) becomes alarmed and turns to Bṛhaspati to ask what these signs mean and what should be done.
