Garuḍa–Śakra Saṃvāda and the Retrieval of Amṛta (गरुड–शक्र संवादः अमृत-अपहरण-प्रसङ्गः)
ऋष यो ह्वात्र लम्बन्ते न हन््यामिति तानूषीन् । तपोरतान् लम्बमानान ब्रह्मर्षीनभिवीक्ष्य सः,तपस्यामें तत्पर हुए उन ब्रह्मर्षियोंको वटकी शाखामें लटकते देख गरुडने सोचा -- इसमें ऋषि लटक रहे हैं। मेरे द्वारा इनका वध न हो जाय। यह गिरती हुई शाखा इन ऋषियोंका अवश्य वध कर डालेगी।” यह विचारकर वीरवर पक्षिराज गरुडने हाथी और कछुएको तो अपने पंजोंसे दृढ़तापूर्वक पकड़ लिया और उन महर्षियोंके विनाशके भयसे झपटकर वह शाखा अपनी चोंचमें ले ली। उन मुनियोंकी रक्षाके लिये ही गरुडने ऐसा अदभुत पराक्रम किया था
ṛṣayo hvātra lambante na hanyāmīti tān ūṣīn | taporatān lambamānān brahmarṣīn abhivīkṣya saḥ |
Rohiṇ said: “Seeing the Brahmarṣis—ascetics devoted to austerity—hanging there, Garuḍa reflected: ‘Here the sages are suspended; may I not become the cause of their death. This falling branch will surely kill these ṛṣis.’ Thinking thus, the heroic king of birds firmly seized the elephant and the tortoise with his talons, and, fearing the destruction of those great sages, swooped down and took the branch in his beak. It was solely to protect those munis that Garuḍa displayed such extraordinary prowess.”
