Ādi-parva Adhyāya 3 — Janamejaya’s Rite, Dhaumya’s Parīkṣā, and Uttanka’s Kuṇḍala Quest (सर्पसत्रप्रस्तावना–गुरुपरीक्षा–उत्तङ्कोपाख्यान)

तत्परितोषाच्च श्रेय: सर्वज्ञतां चावाप | एषा तस्यापि परीक्षा वेदस्य,गुरुके संतोषसे वेदने श्रेय तथा सर्वज्ञता प्राप्त कर ली। इस प्रकार यह वेदकी परीक्षाका वृत्तान्त कहा गया

tatparitoṣāc ca śreyaḥ sarvajñatāṃ cāvāpa | eṣā tasyāpi parīkṣā vedasya |

By that (guru’s) satisfaction he attained true welfare and also omniscience. This, too, was the test concerning Veda: through pleasing the teacher in the gurukula, one gains the highest good and comprehensive knowledge. Thus is narrated the account of Veda’s examination.
