Ādi-parva Adhyāya 3 — Janamejaya’s Rite, Dhaumya’s Parīkṣā, and Uttanka’s Kuṇḍala Quest

Having promised, “So be it,” he guarded the cows and then returned to the teacher’s house. Standing before his guru, he bowed. Upamanyu also took an additional vow—not to drink milk—yet he continued his cowherding as before. One day, after grazing the cattle, he again came back to the teacher’s home and, standing in front of him, offered his respectful salutation.
