“You are burning with anxiety, thinking only of that woman—my rival and enemy. Surely you do not bear toward me the same affection that you once had for her.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how attachment and partiality in intimate relationships can manifest as jealousy and reproach: when one’s mind clings to a former affection, it breeds suffering and undermines fairness toward the present partner.
A woman rebukes her partner, accusing him of being distressed while thinking of her rival (called an enemy), and concludes that his affection for her is not equal to the affection he previously showed the other woman.
