Mandapāla’s Lament amid the Threat of Fire

Vaiśampāyana said: “O Varuṇa-deva, quickly grant me both—the divine bow and the inexhaustible quivers that King Soma bestowed upon you; and also bestow the chariot distinguished by the emblem of a monkey.”
The verse highlights that power (weapons and chariot) should be sought through rightful channels—here, from a deity who holds them by prior legitimate gift—and that timely support is expected when the cause is dharmically justified.
A request is made to Varuṇa to hand over the divine bow, the (inexhaustible) quivers earlier given to him by King Soma, and additionally a chariot bearing a monkey emblem—signaling immediate preparation with celestial equipment.
