Mandapāla’s Lament amid the Threat of Fire

Vaiśampāyana said: “You will surpass even the rākṣasas, piśācas, daityas, and the nāgas; of this there is no doubt. Indeed, in the work of subduing and destroying them, you will prove to be the foremost.” The statement underscores the extraordinary, almost superhuman efficacy of the divine weaponry being granted, and frames its use as a decisive power meant for overcoming hostile, non-human forces.
The verse highlights assured superiority granted by extraordinary power, implying that such power is oriented toward overcoming destructive forces; it implicitly raises the ethical expectation that supreme strength be used decisively against threats rather than for arbitrary violence.
Vaiśampāyana reports a declaration that the addressed hero will surpass various classes of formidable non-human beings (rākṣasas, piśācas, daityas, nāgas) and will be foremost in destroying/subduing them—language typical of a boon or assurance connected with martial capability.
