Then Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) bore a son to Sahadeva under the asterism Kṛttikā, whose presiding deity is Agni. Therefore he came to be known as Śrutasena—understood as a name associated with Agni.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse reflects the traditional Indian view that birth under a particular nakṣatra carries a divine association, and that naming can honor or mirror that presiding deity—linking human lineage with cosmic and ritual order.
Vaiśaṃpāyana states that Draupadī bore Sahadeva a son during Kṛttikā, whose deity is Agni; hence the child is known as Śrutasena, a name understood to be connected with Agni.
