Śārṅgakānāṃ Avināśaḥ (Why the Śārṅga Birds Were Spared) | शार्ङ्गकानामविनाशः

युधिष्ठिरात्‌ प्रतिविन्ध्यं सुतसोम॑ वृकोदरात्‌ । अर्जुनाच्छुतकर्माणं शतानीकं च नाकुलिम्‌,युधिष्ठिरसे प्रतिविन्ध्य, भीमसेनसे सुतसोम, अर्जुनसे श्रुतकर्मा, नकुलसे शतानीक और सहदेवसे श्रुतसेन उत्पन्न हुए थे। इन पाँच वीर महारथी पुत्रोंको पांचाली (द्रौपदी)-ने उसी प्रकार जन्म दिया, जैसे अदितिने बारह आदित्योंको

vaiśampāyana uvāca |

yudhiṣṭhirāt prativindhyaṃ sutasomaṃ vṛkodarāt |

arjunāc chrutakarmāṇaṃ śatānīkaṃ ca nākulim |

Vaiśampāyana said: From Yudhiṣṭhira was born Prativindhya; from Vṛkodara (Bhīma), Sutasoma; from Arjuna, Śrutakarmā; and from Nakula, Śatānīka. Thus Pāñcālī (Draupadī) bore these five heroic sons—mighty chariot-warriors—just as Aditi once gave birth to the twelve Ādityas.
