सर्वसंहननोपेतं सर्वलक्षणलक्षितम् | दुर्धर्षमृषभस्कन्ध॑ व्यात्ताननमिवोरगम्,वह दूसरोंको तिरस्कृत करनेवाले समस्त सदगुणोंसे सम्पन्न, सभी उत्तम लक्षणोंसे सुशोभित एवं दुर्धर्ष था। उसके कंधे वृषभके समान हृष्ट-पुष्ट थे तथा मुँह बाये हुए सर्पकी भाँति वह शत्रुओंको भयानक प्रतीत होता था
sarvasaṁhananopetaṁ sarvalakṣaṇalakṣitam | durdharṣam ṛṣabhaskandhaṁ vyāttānanam ivoragam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: He was endowed with a perfectly compact and powerful build, marked by every auspicious sign, and was difficult for others to assail or overcome. With shoulders broad and firm like a bull’s, and with a face like a serpent with its jaws spread, he appeared terrifying to his enemies—one who would brook no contempt and who carried the stamp of many noble qualities.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights an ethical ideal of kṣatriya-bearing: strength disciplined into a formidable presence, signaled through auspicious traits and unwavering courage, so that injustice and hostility are deterred.
Vaiśampāyana is describing a powerful figure’s physical and symbolic qualities—compact strength, auspicious signs, bull-like shoulders, and a serpent-like, fearsome visage—to convey how intimidating and hard to defeat he appears to enemies.
