Educational Q&A

The verse highlights a practical dimension of dharma: safeguarding communal livelihood and rightful property against coercion. It contrasts self-controlled, duty-bound protectors with undisciplined, cruel wrongdoers, implying that ethical order requires timely, courageous response to injustice.

A report is made that thieves—described as petty, cruel, and sinful—are forcibly driving away cattle from the community’s territory. The Pāṇḍavas are urged to rush out and protect/recover the herd, setting up an immediate action-response scene centered on defense and restitution.
