Sunda and Upasunda: Austerities and the Boon
इति श्रीमहाभारते आदिपर्वणि विदुरागमनराज्यलम्भपर्वणि धृतराष्ट्रमन्त्रणे एकाधिकद्विशततमो<ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate ādiparvaṇi vidurāgamanarājyalambhaparvaṇi dhṛtarāṣṭramantraṇe ekādhikadviśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ
Thus ends, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Ādi Parva, the section on Vidura’s arrival and the attainment of the kingdom—specifically Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s deliberation. This is the two-hundred-and-first chapter.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the ethical setting by highlighting that kingship and political outcomes are discussed alongside counsel (mantraṇa), implying that rule should be guided by deliberation and dharma-informed advice.
This line marks the formal close of a chapter in the Ādi Parva, identifying the thematic unit: Vidura’s arrival, the gaining of the kingdom, and Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s consultation—signposting the transition to the next portion of the text.
