Here one should understand the section called the “Dispute Parvan,” which concerns the great-souled Karṇa. After that comes the Parvan describing the setting forth (marching out) of the Kuru and Pāṇḍava armies. The narrative marks a shift from contention and rivalry to organized movement toward war, showing how unresolved disputes harden into collective conflict.
राम उवाच
The verse underscores how disputes (vivāda) are not isolated events: when not resolved through dharma and restraint, they progress into organized hostility, culminating in collective mobilization (niryāṇa) and war.
The text is marking the epic’s internal structure: it points to a section focused on Karṇa’s dispute-related episode(s) (Vivāda-parvan), and then indicates the subsequent section describing the departure/march of the Kuru and Pāṇḍava armies (Niryāṇa-parvan).
